hummingbird nest

This little bird is in her nest about 3 ft from our door at Adlai Motel. Her nest in the bouganvilla does a lot of swinging in the wind but she seems not to care. The nest is about 2 inches in diameter - so tiny! When she was gone I peeked at her tiny eggs. I hope they hatch this week while we are still here.

fish dinner

We had arrived at Adlai only a few minutes when the owner handed us our dinners that he had just cooked! The fish was in a batter of shaved almonds. With it were Spanish rice and a little salad. We were again, stuffed. Delicious! Such a kind man.

prairie dogs

Today we visited the wonderful Desert Museum. It's a collection of AZ native animals, birds, butterfies and plants or all kinds. There are a lot of prairie dogs living in this area, including babies!

saguaro flowers

These waxy white flowers are blooming in May on the tops and arms of the
tall saguaro cactus. After the flower, the fruits form and are harvested by native people with long sticks.
