It's the 100th anniversary of DeGrazia's birth. The entrance arch is decorated with flowers cut from pop cans and nailed onto the wood!

Indian Children

DeGrazia is best known for his simplistic portayal of Indian children. He painted 15,000 pictures in various media at his "Studio in the Sun" as he called it, next to the Catalina Mountains in NE Tucson.

"beehive" fireplace

This is a typical Tucson fireplace of adobe. It gets cold at night here in the desert so a fire is welcome!

Tohono Chul Park in Tucson

Herm, Bev and Nancy spent several hours here among the cactus and wildflowers. Then we had lunch on the patio of the Tea House here.

Giant Saguaro looking at you!

This is a rare type with double top. Birds have made holes in it for their nests. It's just interesting that they made them next to each other!

Mama hummingbird

She is sitting on her eggs in her tiny nest. A good zoom on my camera makes her look a lot bigger than she really is.

Palo Verde trees

We are planning to plant a blue palo verde in our yard but it will be only 3 ft tall.

Another guy in the park

It's spring and the snakes are out. This one is harmless, fortunately

Careful!

You bet we did stay on the trail!

Bev and Ivan Murphy

Ivan helped at a model airplane show while Bev, Herm and Nancy visited the park and DeGrazia gallery. It's great when good friends come to visit!

Nancy's sweatshirt cardigan

I took a class to make this "hourglass msweatshirt". The toughest part was finding a sweatshirt although it took awhile to make this. Very sharp scissors are required!

Swim Meet '09

Today I swam sidestroke for 25 yards and freestyle for 25 yards. Not many in my age group! That was a big advantage in getting these 2 blues!

Redmond and Sheena visit

Redmond (formerly of the trimarran "Moon Me") came by for a couple of days of fun and frolic. They are on their way to Victoria from their winter in Florida. Last winter Redmond was in Nuevo Vallarta and La Cruz where he entertained many of us with his amusing stories and guitar music.

Madera Canyon deer

This deer was munching grass near the parking lot at 5400 ft.

on the Mt Baldy trail.

This is one of the many trails in Coronado National Forest topped by Mt Wrightson, elevation 9453 ft. We didn't get that far! The higher the trail, the steeper it gets! It's only a 20 minute drive from Green Valley to the parking lot at 5400 ft. From there, the trails fan out and up.

Looking west toward Green Valley

Green Valley is in the distance. This view is from the trail in Madera Canyon of the Santa Rita mountains, looking west.

Lower part of the Madera Canyon Trail

There are lots of trees along the lower part of the trail at about 6000 ft. They have very small leaves.
