The orchid tree photo

Here it is! Today, Saturday, the mechanic rebuilt our starter. There was oil in it - maybe from the rising water in the hurricane last August. Anyhow, the engine runs great and we do not need the new battery!!! Hope to be off on Tuesday, at last! We'll cross the Sea under a full moon which will be great.

bottom painting

Herm is painting Sea Tern's bottom with the ugly dark paint which is not the color he ordered. Anyhow, we expect it to repel barnacles as well as the color we had last time.

the beautiful orchid tree

This tree with its beautiful flowers is outside our motel door. It's a cheery spot in our otherwise frustrating existence. The computer won't recognise our madem so there will be no email from the boat, nor cell phone either. The starter battery we bought last year is toast and the one we ordered a week ago, promised for yesterday MAY arrive next WEEK! We will be launched on Saturday anyhow and spend the waiting time at anchor.

Herm scrubbing the bottom

First he sanded it, then washed it. Tomorrow he'll paint the bottom of Sea Tern. Should look good and keep the barnacles off for awhile anyway. On Wed we'll get a new starter battery as our "old" one (11 months only) has died. Another $350 down the bilge!

snow - still!

The Santa Rita mountains are next to Green Valley where it has been in the 80's this week and sunny all day. However, the snow lingers at 7000 to 9000 ftallyt and I hiked up part way but not as far as the snow. It gets VERY steep up there!

big tire

This is one of 8 tires from the old ore truck. The new truck has 12 ft tires, wider still! They last 6 months and cost $32k. Sally and I visited a lot of nifty places while she was with us only 6 days.
