GV Senior Games Swimming

Today, March 20, was the big swim meet! There were 90 swimmers includding our GV team of men and women. Scoring is by age group, same as "Masters". There were four women in my age group - 80 to 89. As you see, they were competitive! No golds
for me today although I was ahead in the backstroke until I hit the lane line near the end! We all had a great time.

We had a good visit on Friday with cruising friends, Jean and Charlie and their pup, Riley down from Calgary, Canada. It was fun catching up on their travels to Africa, Thailand, Romania and other interesting places including old times and characters in Nuevo Vallarta.

Tumacacori Mission

This church was built by the Franciscans between 1800 and 1820 as a replacement for the original church built by Padre Kino, a pioneer Jesuit priest who arrived here in 1691. The first church was built in 1757. Raiding Apaches frequently visited the area, pillaging the Yaqui and D'Odham Indian villages and the church settlement which caused them to be vacated periodically. The church and granery, along with the convent, priests' house all finally fell into ruins. Today this place is a National Historic Park.
