Glen Canyon dam

Built between 1957 and 1967, this dam holds back Lake Powell and generates electricity but it is primarily meant to store water for the western states. The high bridge saves a 200 mile trip to get from one side of the canyon to the other - a necessity when building the dam. The town of Page, AZ was built at the same time. It's a nice little town on top of a butte, with lots of tourist services and a great view.
